The SAFE Ambassadors are education specialists who lead classroom-based presentations for 2nd and 5th graders about walking and bicycling safety. In the weeks following in-class presentations, Ambassadors revisit some classrooms to lead outdoor, on-foot workshops, teaching children to apply what they learned in the classroom. In addition to leading presentations and workshops in schools, SAFE Ambassadors attend community events to reach a broader audience.

Primary Funding and Support
Project management, program development and program materials for the City of Chicago’s SAFE Ambassadors are funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety and by the Chicago Department of Transportation.
Partners
The City of Chicago’s SAFE Ambassador Program partners with several organizations to increase the effectiveness of our traffic safety outreach.
The Chicago Park District generously funds the Junior Ambassador program and one SAFE Ambassador Position. Funding from the Chicago Park District enables the Ambassador program to attend more than 100 park district day camps every summer. In 2019, 15 Junior Ambassadors helped the City of Chicago’s SAFE Ambassadors reach 14,000 youths with walking and bicycling safety messages in just six weeks.
