Project Description

The alley between 4870 N Milwaukee Avenue and 5438 W Higgins Avenue will be improved as the City creates a new pedestrian plaza in the alley at Milwaukee Avenue and resurfaces the rest of the alley to Higgins Avenue. These improvements have been designed by the City of Chicago Department of Transportation in close cooperation with community representatives and the alderman.

The project will consist of numerous improvements including the closing to traffic the northern part of the alley near Milwaukee Avenue to facilitate a pedestrian plaza, pavers, decorative lighting, seating, drainage improvements, alley resurfacing, and a neighborhood identifier. The new plaza and resurfaced alley will enhance the existing pedestrian connection to the Jefferson Park Transit Center via the alley from Higgins Avenue to Milwaukee Avenue.
